"Cured fungus and bamboo are probably going to be our main building materials - much faster to grow, lighter, good insulators. And mycelium can be molded into custom shapes very easily. Real timber we can save for luxury and specialty pieces."
"I should teach you to play meshgeroya," he tells then when Quentin mentions a soccer pitch. They're... close, meshgeroya's just a little more brutal. Even than rugby. He remembers rugby fondly, still, from that one breach.
"You can build with fungus?" That is definitely news to him and neatly redirects his train of thought, he mostly thinks of the mushrooms in the dining hall when he thinks fungus.
Wonders Quentin, already re-editing the plans in his head, less concrete, more bungalows, lofts, a immediate organic explosion of packed earth floors and tree trunks rising up through platforms, windows open onto green canopies, overlooking fields of produce.
"Yeah, you just..." Jedao muses as he kneads at Quentin. "The mycelium threads are actually very strong. If you grow them on the right substrate they can be dried and kiln-fired into something more durable than concrete. It'll take a little while to get the production up and running smoothly, but after that it scales wonderfully."
"Mmm, big rectangle," he answers, feeling lazy and comfortable and warm as they talk about... Force, about their future. As a thing that's going to happen, all bogged down in the trivialities of building materials and city planning.
"Good," he answers Jedao, rubbing idly up and down his leg, just enjoying touching them both, even if he only has skin where his other hand is still curled around Quentin's ankle. "We're going to need to build lots of housing. Group housing," he clarifies, because Quentin is obviously mental running down all those avenues. "For adults and... for children." So many children, who'll actually get to be children. "And training facilities too." Because they're still going to mostly be soldiers, and they're going to need them for their war.
