He takes in a breath.
"I literally do not have the vocabulary for this."
"I don't feel comfortable rehearsing this with you," he says plainly, and descends the ladder to move it along the hallway.
"Frankly? Yes. But I can't imagine that you'd want to say to me what you plan on taking to your next conversation with Jedao," he says, bluntly.
Elijah almost says something about needing to see his sources for that, but retreats up a ladder instead.
"Well, I wouldn't be any use regardless. I don't know him."
"Surely there's an element of adaptation to your audience," Elijah murmurs, not really caring, just conscious that picking at technicalities beats having a real conversation.
"Which I will do. When I'm in an environment which feels conducive."
I.e. not up a ladder in his ex-warden's company.
"I suppose you'll never know."
Card declined.
"Rhys is your - Christ," Elijah mutters, possibly his first blasphemy in Quentin's company. "Rhys needs to keep our confidences. I'll talk to him."
"....Does he talk to you about him and I?" Elijah asks, shielding a slight sense of vulnerability.
Surely any discussion is, by definition, a conversation. Is this something other than that? How is Quentin measuring it?
"....Good," he remarks, cautiously.
"I have never been afraid to be talked about," Elijah points out, in a tone that suggests he doesn't even understand the concept.
