[In honor of the Earth holiday centering on love, Freya sends out a little gift around this time.
A small box containing a piece of chocolate will appear on your pillow during the day. When consumed, the chocolate’s magic will lift your mood for a short period of time. It’s accompanied by a note.]
Where love might bring about sorrow, it also welcomes joy.
[ In honour of the god centering on love being a giant frilly prissypants, Loki sends his own little gift just a few hours after hers.
His box of chocolate will look, smell, and taste exactly like Freya's did, appearing right next to where Freya's was or is if you haven't picked it up yet. The only difference between the two is that Loki's won't lift your mood; it'll give you loud and embarrassing flatulence for the next three hours.
It's also accompanied by a note. ]
Where joy might bring about yearning, it also welcomes wonder.
I should've done this sooner. It's just been so busy, I got a job and joined the medic corps and that whole thing with the ecstasy runes... but, um, thanks. And sorry you were the one who got the nervous breakdown treatment, even if - I'm kind of not, because you pretty much handled it like a pro, so I'm glad it was you. But that's just if it had to happen at all, which I wish it didn't, so that's why I'm sorry.
Anyway. Thanks. I'm a bit more sane now, if you ever wanna have a proper talk about anything.
The flood has been hard on everyone, and certainly on Nina. It hasn't been nearly as bad as it could be, she knows, but she spends the whole time so raw and so on edge that by the end of it she's just feeling completely fried.
Still, though she begged off all her lessons but Furiosa's during the flood, she comes for her magic lesson when it's over. If she lets herself collapse now, she thinks, there's no telling when she'll get up again, and she can't afford that. Besides, there's something she finds calming about Quentin's presence, in a way she doesn't really get from anybody else.
She's looking exhausted underneath the paint, and to a careful enough observer there are signs that she's obviously jonesing for a cigarette, but she turns up at his door, all the same.
whoops froze the thread for a second there, fighting this journal layout
Quentin opens the door- looking serenely unaffected, not because he wasn't, exactly, but because he has a bad habit of blurting out secrets to begin with so hadn't really signed up for much out of the ordinary.
Anyways, he lets her in with a warm;
"Hi Nina. Tea or coffee?"
He's always happy to make both for their lessons. And, because they can be exhausting,
[Eliot gives it a few days after Steve's meltdown and Quentin's post before he contacts the guy, mostly because he's more concerned with keeping an eye on Steve than chewing out his warden. Well, and maybe because it would probably be best to wait until he's going to be able to actually talk to him rather than try to shake him like a terrier with a rat, but that's a motivation he's not owning up to. When he does send a message his voice is flat and tight, and he doesn't make any effort to be polite; he's clearly not best pleased.]
With everything that's, ah, happening- is there anything I can get you, or- or do for you while I'm still technically your warden?
[He doesn't, he's decided, much like being in a position of power over his friend at all. It doesn't feel right. But by Merlin's beard he'll do everything in his power to make sure Quentin's prepared, and if that means using what influence he has with the Admiral... so be it.]
Credence comes across Quentin a couple of days after Alec drops him off. He's still in his usual clothes, his old coat - but it saw him through a good number of New York winters. As long as his hands are in his pockets, it's fine.
Jedao gives himself a couple days to wear down the hard knot of protectiveness and irritation. He can only do this if it's for the right reasons. Fives is an adult who doesn't want to cause them trouble. Jedao can't tell himself he's doing it for him. He can only do it for himself, or for Quentin. He can't do it out of anger or resentment; if he tries, he will be cruel in ways he promised not to be, in ways he can feel them temptation of.
He spends most of a day and a half asleep, after he tapers off the stimulants, even if it happens in three and four hour chunks. He misses Quentin already, which feels like the right frame of mind, and finds him at breakfast. He slides an egg and three pieces of bacon onto Quentin's plate, crispy enough to scoop yolk with. More protein, Quentin said Eggsy recommended.
"I hear you bit Fives' nose off a little for calling you soft-hearted," he says, blunt but not angry, lightly, for all that it's deliberately provocative phrasing.
